It was a pleasant day for a walk, but Katherine was not out for a casual stroll in some quaint little park. No, not today. Today, she and her Growlithe were doing a bit of mountaineering, on the side of the dormant volcano. Katherine had heard rumours of this place. Some said it was the ideal place to find fire types. But other rumours claimed fire types feared this place. Katherine could not understand why the latter could be true. After all, where better for a fire type to live than a volcano, home to fire and heat?
Even if there were no fire types here, it wasn't as if Katherine had anything to lose. Bandit needed to train, to become stronger so he could compete and hold his own against even the strongest Pokémon the trainers of the islands had to offer. She sighed, rubbing at a scar on her arm absentmindedly. If she was perfectly honest with herself, the thought of challenging trainers worried her. Her experience of battles mainly involved her having to fight other humans to protect herself, whilst Bandit was forced to protect himself from their Pokémon- there was a reason she was so badly scarred. And that wasn't even mentioning her issues with authority and rules.
Perhaps this entire thing had been a bad idea. Katherine grimaced. No. That couldn't be the case. If this had been a bad idea, then that meant being arrested, forcibly separated from Lily and having her closest- and, in all honesty, only- friend taken from her was a good idea. And while Katherine had agreed to leave Lily on a temporary basis, she simply couldn't stand the thought of being separated for good.
Annoyed at herself, Katherine shook her head, trying to get rid of the thought. Now wasn't the time. There was never a time. The past was the past- she had no more influence on it than she had on the weather. Now, in the present, she had to focus on the future, and right now her future was training Bandit and trying to win battles. Keeping that thought in mind, Katherine began looking for a foe for her Pokémon to face.
