RaspPi Advertising Solution?

HI,
I've been asked by a friend to come up with an advertising solution.He's got a barber shop and he want's a 32" TV that displays adverts (pictures/PDF's) for local businesses and events. I think this should be easily achievable with a Raspberry Pi and a basic script that randomizes pictures in a folder. Ideally it would load them from a USB making it easier for him to manage or maybe load them from a dropbox folder?
Any one think of a better way to do this?
Any help will be apprecited.
