BIOGRAPHY AND APPEARANCE Small and slight, at 5’4” Katherine isn’t particularly notable in terms of size and build. While she doesn’t look very strong, with a slender build, what little weight she does have is muscle, thanks to a long time spent training her own body to prepare for anything. She is fair-skinned, but not pale, and has brown hair. Her eyes are dark blue. Her most notable features are a scar on her left cheek, and a nick in her right ear, giving her a tough, battle-worn look. Unseen features hidden by clothing include scarring on her shoulders and upper arms. Katherine doesn’t do much with herself when it comes to appearances. Generally she wears long-sleeved tops, often blouses, and she likes to wears light colours, most often white. It is, she claims, a reference to her twin. She usually wears plain black trousers, giving her a smart appearance- or rather, they would, if it weren’t for her blue trainers, which lead to a more casual look. On occasion, she may wear dresses, though she always feels uncomfortable displaying her scars, and she often wears a white headband to keep her hair out of her eyes. ----- Katherine was born in Kanto, and her early life was anything but easy. Her father, Darius, died when she was two, and when she was four her mother, Tamara, was arrested for stealing items and Pokémon to keep for herself and to sell on illegally- a way of making a living quickly and easily, or so Tamara had thought. So it was early in Katherine’s life that she and her numerous siblings- two older, Willow and Matthew, one twin, Lily, and two younger, Samuel and Poppy- were sent to an orphanage. For almost a year she was in the orphanage, until she was sent to a foster family alongside her twin. While the foster family had the best intentions, they weren’t entirely sure how to deal with the hostile, aggressive young girl that Katherine had become by this point. Desperate for attention, she began to pick fights with other children, and not a day went by when Katherine didn’t return home with bloody fists. Only Lily seemed able to calm her down, and the twins would often share dreams of adventures and dreams, with Lily sharing a wish to become a coordinator, and Katherine admitting her desire to be a trainer- specifically, a trainer specialising in fire types. When the twins turned twelve, they made their choice to leave home. Together they ran away from the foster home and set out to try and survive without any help. Along the way, they learnt tricks their mother had once known- tricks related to theft. Katherine learnt tricks related to stealing items- her sister learnt to steal Pokémon. By their fifteenth birthday they had become expert thieves, and had picked up their own Pokémon. Lily had picked out a Houndour, while Katherine went for a Growlithe- the Pokémon she still has to this day. But despite their crimes, neither girl fell to lies. Katherine, in particular, developed a habit of being brutally honest, even when it hurt. She found it inspired trust if she was constantly honest with people, which in turn made it easier to steal. Life was just fine for the twins, despite the occasional outbreak of violence, which earned Katherine many of her scars, until they attracted too much attention shortly after their fifteenth birthday. Like their mother before them, they were on the wrong side of the law, and when their siblings could not convince them to turn away from their path- in fact, their older brother actively encouraged them, being a thief himself- the police began to get involved. After a close shave, the twins decided to separate for a while. Both headed for the same set of islands. Katherine remained on Tonga- her sister went on to Bahari. And they have remained separate ever since, with Katherine trying to hide her past and start a new life, an honest life, trying to achieve her dreams as a trainer with her Growlithe.
